Experience the history and splendor of Gilded-Age Washington at Anderson House on Embassy Row – a 1905 Beaux Arts mansion built as the winter home of Larz Anderson, an American diplomat, and his wife, Isabel. Designed by the Boston firm of Arthur Little Herbert Browne, the house was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1996.

This beautiful museum housing rich collections is headquarters to the Society of the Cincinnati.

Arrival & Parking

Parking is available near the Cosmos Club (2121 Massachusetts Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20008). You may park at Hillyer Court, which is off Florida Avenue and to the right of Hillyer Art Space (9 Hillyer Court, NW). Look for a green street sign to a red brick ally where you may park. If you talk to the valet there, mention that you are with Cosmos Club member Lois Cohen.

We suggest parking your car before 11:00 am. Then walk across Massachusetts Ave. to the nearby Society of the Cincinnati for a house tour (2118 Massachusetts Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20008). We have a group reservation for a private house tour from 11:15 - 12:15 pm.

Then listen to a brief introduction of a special visiting exhibit, "Saving Soldiers: medical practice the Revolutionary War." Walk through at your leisure for up about 20 minutes.

The tour of the Society of the Cincinnati will be followed by lunch at the Cosmos Club from 12:45 pm to about 2 pm. The reservation will be under the name of Lois Cohen. Please bring cash or a check to reimburse Lois for the cost of your lunch based on what you order, plus gratuity and tax.
