A Conversation with Margaret Owen

Director of Widows for Peace, Activist, &

Human Rights Barrister

Wednesday, June 22, 1:00 pm-2:30 pm

Margaret Owen is a widely acclaimed and celebrated human rights activist who has advocated for decades on behalf of widows. Her own experience with widowhood raised her awareness of widows in conflict and AIDS-afflicted areas of the world.

Margaret, who is a UK based immigration and asylum lawyer, founded the first international organization to address human rights issues in the context of widowhood--Widows for Peace through Democracy. She’s also the founding member of GAPS-UK (Gender Action for Peace and Security). She is a regular participant at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women and consults with the UN on issues of widowhood. Margaret is also the mother-in-law of LFV's Lisa Owen!
